BIO
Molly Elkind is a mixed-media fiber artist living and working near Atlanta. Her small-scale, mostly abstract art quilts and mixed media collages gain their vivid color from artist-dyed cotton and silk and hundreds of hand-embroidered glass beads. Molly's work is inspired by the beauty of the natural landscape and by the intimate, meditative quality of medieval icons.
Molly's art quilts, handmade paper sculptures, and mixed media work have been exhibited in juried shows locally and nationally, and she has been published in Arts Across Kentucky and Needlearts magazines. She received an Artist Enrichment grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women and the Norman Kohlhepp Prize at the Louisville Water Tower Annual. Her work is in several private collections. Molly takes commissions and also does liturgical work.
Molly's art practice is devoted to sharing art as well as creating it. Molly brings over twenty years of teaching experience to her art workshops in schools, museums, community art centers, quilt shows and guilds, and private classes.
Molly earned an MA in Studio Art, with a concentration in Fiber, from the University of Louisville in 2002. She also holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English. She is a member of the Surface Design Association, The Embroiderer's Guild of America/Fiber Forum (juried in), the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild, and the Handweavers Guild of America.
