My Journey in Fabric and Thread
Lecture/Trunk show
I present a trunk show of my quilts and mixed-media fiber art works, ranging from the earliest quilts I made for my children to the framed art quilts featured in my recent solo show. Hear how I learned to design my own quilts and also ventured into papermaking, dyeing, embroidery, beadwork and computer printing on fabric. Learn about my transition from hobbyist to professional artist, and about my volunteer work in liturgical art. One hour presentation includes time for questions and close-up looks at many quilts and mixed media works.

Print-Bead-Quilt! Small Digitally Printed Bead-Embellished Art Quilts
Hands-On Workshop (Optional Sequel to Basic Bead Embroidery)
Learn about printing photos on fabric for beading, then bead over and around your photo and integrate it into an art quilt that incorporates your favorite quilting techniques. The instructor will provide a kit including a photo printed on fabric, beads, fabric, batting, beading needle and thread. First we'll review basic bead embroidery stitches including seed stitch, backstitch, and couching. Digital Photos in Mixed Media Memory Quilts
Hands-On Workshop (Optional Sequel to Digital Printing on Fabric)
Like scrapbooking, only in fabric! You'll bring your photo(s) printed on fabric. We'll start with some exercises to jumpstart your creativity and brainstorm about the unique story you want to tell and the feeling you want to convey. Then you'll play with fabric, trims, embellishments, and found objects to construct a pieced, fused and/or appliqué 12'' block that tells the story. Along the way, you'll learn helpful strategies for making a successful fabric collage. We'll also discuss various ways of presenting your finished piece-as a wall hanging, a framed piece, a pillow, or maybe even the start of a larger memory quilt.

Finishing Options for Small Quilts

Small art quilts (under about 18" square) often benefit from a finish other than the tried and true traditional binding. Learn about options including facings, wrapped edges, couched edges, stretcher bars, and framing. Instructor will demonstrate each method and discuss pros and cons of each using examples of her work.
